This Week In Doctor Who - January 12, 2005

THIS WEEK IN DOCTOR WHO
January 12, 2005 - Vol 8, No 2
The weekly guide to Doctor Who broadcasts worldwide.

Speculation on the premiere date for the new Doctor Who series
continues. The biggest miscalculation yet has to be last Saturday's
Sun newspaper in the UK, which claimed that Doctor Who was
premiering on BBC One that night (8 January) even when it wasn't on
the schedule.
In the US, it's worth keeping an eye on the reports from the
Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour (January 11 through
14). Most of the Cable networks are announcing their winter and
spring programming plans. *If* Doctor Who is airing in the US before
the Summer, one of the networks at this event will probably announce
that they have the rights to it. The Futon Critic
http://www.thefutoncritic.com is the best source I've found for
Press Tour news. As of this writing no networks have picked up the
series. After the tour concludes Friday, the NCTA will update their
online guide to upcoming cable programming, found at
http://www.ncta.com/Docs/PageContent.cfm?pageID=240 .
In Canada, the best news for Doctor Who may be the hockey strike.
CBC http://www.cbc.ca/television is rumored to have rights to start
airing Doctor Who on March 1 or after each episode airs on BBC One,
whichever comes second. CBC tends to focus on hockey from March to
June. Mark it under speculation, but Doctor Who could help fill a
programming hole should the hockey season be cancelled altogether.
UKTV Gold http://www.ukgold.tv seems to be skipping a lot of Tom Baker stories in its new run through the series. Last time through they skipped Genesis of the Daleks, The Android Invasion, and Destiny of the Daleks due to issues with Terry Nation's estate. This time they also seem to be skipping The Sontaran Experiment and Pyramids of Mars. No clue why.
WYBE 35 http://www.wybe.org still has Doctor Who on their Saturday schedule through January, 2 weeks beyond the end of Survival, the last episode. Since I refuse to believe that there is a 4th episode of Survival (a 3 parter) or that they would continue repeating episodes 3+4 week after week then there's no telling which episodes will air on the 22nd and 29th.
